Just a month after development was brought in-house, the next-gen update to The Witcher 3 has received a release window. Fans can expect the game at some point in Q4 2022.As announced on the official Twitter account of the Witcher series, the update, which will bring the game to Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 natively, is coming later this year. The announcement came as a part of CD Projekt Red's celebration of the seventh anniversary of The Witcher 3's initial release. It is the latest in a long line of potential release windows for The Witcher 3 update.RELATED: Witcher 3 Developer Refutes Claims the Game Is In 'Development Hell'

Initially announced with a 2021 release date, the update was delayed to Q2 2022. Last month, development on The Witcher 3 changed hands, going from Evil Dead: The Game developer Saber Interactive to an in-house team at CD Projekt Red. That shift led to the announcement of an indefinite delay. Fortunately, development in-house seems to be going more smoothly than CDPR anticipated, meaning the content update will still release this year.

Alongside the next-gen update for The Witcher 3, there have been a number of major announcements in the world of the Witcher series. CD Projekt Red is currently developing content updates for GWENT: The Witcher Card Game and The Witcher: Monster Slayer alongside a handful of unannounced projects. They've also announced a new single-player GWENT spinoff in the vein of 2018's Thronebreaker.

In addition to content updates for smaller titles in the series and a new GWENT game, the next major installment in the game series is also in the works. The Witcher 4 will be built in Unreal Engine 5. The game is expected to take the series in a new direction, moving away from the adventures of the eponymous witcher Geralt of Rivia and shifting its focus onto other characters' stories.

The next-gen update for The Witcher 3 will include all of the game's previously-released DLC and expansions, including the critically beloved Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions. In addition, the update will come with new content inspired by Netflix's The Witcher, allowing players to slip comfortably into Henry Cavill's take on Geralt of Rivia. When the update releases, it will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and Microsoft Windows. Gamers can play the current-gen version of The Witcher 3 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch and Microsoft Windows.
