The CW released the synopsis for the series premiere of the upcoming Supernatural prequel series, The Winchesters.

Per the pilot synopsis, The Winchesters, like Supernatural, will start with Mary Campbell (Meg Donnelly) on a search for her missing father while John Winchester (Drake Rodger) attempts to solve the mystery of his own father's past. Written by Robbie Thompson and directed by Glen Winter, the pilot will introduce Nida Khurshid as Latika, Jonathan "Jojo" Fleites as Carlos, Demetria McKinney as Ada and Bianca Kajlich as John's mother, Millie.

Told from Dean's perspective, The Winchesters will focus on Sam and Dean Winchester's parents, John and Mary, in the early days of their "epic, love story," and will follow the two characters as they "put it all on the line to not only save their love but the entire world." Jensen Ackles will reprise his Supernatural role as Dean Winchester in the prequel as the series' narrator. Announced in June 2021, The Winchesters received a pilot order from The CW with Jensen and Daneel Ackles serving as executive producers through their production company Chaos Machine Productions.

The Winchesters' Journey Begins

"After Supernatural wrapped its 15th season, we knew it wasn't over. Because like we say in the show, 'nothing ever really ends, does it?'" Ackles said when The Winchesters was announced. "When Danneel and I formed Chaos Machine Productions, we knew the first story we wanted to tell was the story of John and Mary Winchester, or rather the Supernatural origin story. I always felt like my character, Dean, would have wanted to know more about his parents' relationship and how it came to be. So I love the thought of having him take us on this journey."

Created by Eric Kripke (The Boys) and starring Ackles and Padalecki as monster-hunting brothers, Sam and Dean Winchester, Supernatural ran on The CW for 15 seasons, wrapping its 327-episode run on Nov. 19, 2020. Ackles recently starred as Soldier Boy in Season 3 of Prime Video's The Boys, while co-star Jared Padalecki headlined The CW's reboot of Walker, Texas Ranger. Though a Supernatural reboot is unconfirmed, Ackles announced a few months after the series finale that he would be producing a Supernatural prequel show titled The Winchesters.

SERIES PREMIERE – Before Sam and Dean, there were their parents, John and Mary. Told from the perspective of narrator Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles), THE WINCHESTERS is the epic, untold love story of how John Winchester (Drake Rodger) met Mary Campbell (Meg Donnelly) and put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world. When John returns home from fighting in Vietnam, a mysterious encounter sparks a new mission to trace his father's past. In his journey, he crosses paths with 19-year-old demon hunter Mary, who is also searching for answers after the disappearance of her own father. Together, the two join forces with young hunter-in-training Latika (Nida Khurshid) and easygoing hunter Carlos (Jonathan "Jojo" Fleites) to uncover the hidden truths about both their families. Their investigation leads them to a rare book emporium, whose owner Ada (Demetria McKinney) takes an interest to the occult and could provide the missing pieces to their puzzle. But secrets run deep for both the Winchesters and Campbells, and despite the best efforts of John's mother Millie (Bianca Kajlich) to protect her son from pursuing a dangerous life of demon hunting, John and Mary are both determined to work together to uphold their families' legacies while beginning to form a family of their own. Glen Winter directed the episode written by Robbie Thompson.

All 15 seasons of Supernatural are currently streaming on Netflix. The Winchesters premieres on The CW on, Oct. 11.
