The Winchesters screens its pilot episode and holds a Q&A for Supernatural fans at New York Comic Con 2022.

CBR is seated and reporting LIVE from the screening, the show telling the story of Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester's (Jensen Ackles) parents, John (Drake Rodger) and Mary (Meg Donnelly), how they fell in love, saved people and hunted things together. The panel's guests include Ackles and Danneel Ackles as the show's executive producers, and stars Rodger and Donnelly.

Supernatural fans have filed into the Empire Stage in the Javits Center, with the panel set to begin at 2:00 pm EST.

The warm-up show hyped up the crowd while asking them not to record the premiere they are about to witness, asking that everyone's phones be put away, and they enjoy the show as it was meant to be viewed.

The crowd erupted into immense applause as a pilot began to play.

After the pilot ended with another bout of applause from the audience, the panelists began to arrive onstage.

After the moderator, the first guest out was Danneel Ackles, followed by Jensen Ackles, Donnelly, Rodger and showrunner Robbie Thompson.

The first question asked was to the Ackles couple, asking about developing the show during the COVID-19 lockdown. "We just started talking about the expansion and universe of Supernatural would ever look like," Jensen said. "We just started spitballing," he continued, talking of wanting to go back in time and explore Sam and Jean's parents.

Jensen Ackles announced that Smallville's Tom Welling will be playing Samuel Campbell in the series, as Welling took to the stage. "This is all Jensen's fault. I lost a bet," Welling said. Sam Campbell is Mary Campbell's father in the Supernatural universe. After a huge reaction from the audience while Welling was onstage, Ackles and Welling briefly spoke on their Smallville roots before Welling left.

"Your father is Superman," Ackles said to Donnelly.

Thompson spoke on joining the show as its showrunner, after previously working on Supernatural. "One of the first conversations we had...we were very clear...we will not be rewriting," Thompson said, saying that the spinoff will not rewrite, reboot or change the Supernatural continuity in any way. He said that what they are doing with the show overall and its goal will be revealed by Episode 13.

The spinoff's two stars were asked about the weight of playing Mary and John, speaking of how "surreal" it was to hear the crowd's reactions to the pilot screening. Rodger said he has "Zero intention" of trying to live up to Jeffrey Dean Morgan's portrayal of John Winchester, saying how he watched and was a fan of Supernatural. Donnelly spoke on Mary being "very badass," and that her relationship with John makes the character open up more and be more vulnerable.

The conversation then turned to Mary and John's companions in the show, Carlos (Jojo Fleites) and Latika (Nida Khurshid). "You should be worried about all of these characters because it is Supernatural," Thompson said. "I'll kill them all."

"Carlos is a lot, he takes up all of the space," Thompson said of Felites' character, saying that Carlos was a difficult part to cast.

Thompson added that they "get to do" the show, they don't have to, talking about how great the experience is. Ackles said he would give another "little surprise," continuing to say he had spoken to Richard Spade and heard that the show is being well-received already by those and fans involved.

The panel then talked about the Acreda, the show's big bad for Season 1. Thompson labeled the threat as something "never seen before," but very much in the vibe of Supernatural's history and lore. "This is handcrafted," he continued, saying the show is made by people who love it.

Jensen Ackles talked about how The Winchesters will feature a number of "subtle" Easter eggs referencing Supernatural, while still adding to the story and building it.

Ackles was then asked about Castiel, Misha Collins' character from Supernatural. "We will be bringing a lot of familiar faces," Thompson said, "But whether or not we see Mr. Misha Collins..." Thompson trailed off before saying they want to see old faces return if they can.

The panel then opened questions to fans.

The first fan asked if the plan was always to mirror Supernatural's first season with someone's dad "on a hunting trip" and "he hasn't been seen in a few days." Thompson took credit for wanting to do that.

The next fan asked about which are Supernatural's best episodes that belong on the "Mount Rushmore" of Supernatural. Thompson said, "Mystery Spot," Jensen said, "French Mistake" and "Baby." Rodger mentioned, "Dead Man's Blood," before Ackles also added the Supernatural pilot that started it all.

The third fan asked about the Mary and the show's female characters, with Meg saying she is "really excited" about what is in store for fans.

The fourth fan asked if Jensen kept his gym teacher Dean Winchester outfit, with the EP and star responding, "I believe that's tucked away somewhere.

Fan #5 asked a question towards The Winchesters' two stars, asking how they found their own Mary and John. Rodger said he was "extremely excited" to play John and to "go back to where it begins," comparing young John Winchester as "Walter White before Heisenberg," a reference to Breaking Bad. Meg said her Mary is like Dean Winchester, but she's longing to behave more like Sam Winchester.

After that, a fan asked, "Are we gonna see Crowley?" Crowley was Mark Sheppard's character on Supernatural, and Jensen Ackles said that if the show is supported, "I guarantee you will see more familiar faces."

After two more fan questions, the panel ended. The Winchesters premieres Oct. 11 on The CW.
