The Wheel of Time showrunner Rafe Judkins recently confirmed the connection between Egwene and Perrin in Season 1 of the show will likely continue in Season 2 and could inform future relationships on the show.

"I think you do see in the books this idea of, 'Did Perrin have feelings for Egwene?' We've milked that a little here," Judkins told CBR in an exclusive interview. "I think it will continue." The showrunner added that, while fans have been vocal about not loving the possibility of a romance between the two characters, it was important to him to establish the connection before introducing other storylines.

"Each of those characters goes on to have very important relationships, Egwene with Gawyn, and then Perrin with Faile," he continued. "And so those relationships, we will also take those, those are two big relationships that are really foregrounded in the books, and so we'll take them and really run with them too. I think any real romantic relationship that we do have in the foreground, we want to use."

While the Gawyn and Faile characters have yet to be introduced on the show, the relationships those characters have with Egwene and Perrin, respectively, play an important role in Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time novels.

In the books, Egwene first meets Gawyn shortly before the coup at the White Tower. The relationship progresses during their time in Cairhien and the pair eventually marry in a simple ceremony orchestrated by Silviana Brehon prior to The Last Battle. Meanwhile, Faile and Perrin are first brought together when Faile chooses to join Perrin's search party on their journey to find the Horn. The pair are married shortly after halting the Trolloc invasion and are later named Lord and Lady of the Two Rivers.

In Prime Video's series adaptation, Egwene al'Vere is portrayed by Madeleine Madden and Perrin Aybara is portrayed by Marcus Rutherford. Both characters were mentioned by the Aes Sedai Moiraine Damodred (Rosamund Pike) in the first episode as possibilities for the prophecized Dragon Reborn, but it was ultimately revealed in Season 1, Episode 7 ("The Dark Along the Ways") that Rand was the Dragon Reborn.

While the futures of both Egwene and Perrin remain unclear on the show, Madden recently detailed what it's been like portraying "a really liberated character." "The women are really at the forefront of this story," she said at the time. "In this world, it's not something radical or out of the ordinary for them to be in positions of power, or to hold authority."

All eight episodes of Season 1 of The Wheel of Time are now available to stream on Prime Video. Season 2 does not yet have a release date.
