The Wheel of Time star Marcus Rutherford recently teased that the Prime Video series' second season will be "more brutal" than the first.

Rutherford, who plays Perrin Aybara, explained that The Wheel of Time Season 2's more intense vibe reflected the evolution of its younger characters in an interview with Leftlion. "They've started to accept and have faith in the prophecy and their destiny, so there's more of a maturity to them," he said. "It's darker too, more real and a bit more brutal. The innocence of those kids we find in the village in Episode 1 is long gone, and they're becoming a bit more grown-up. I'm really excited for people to see it."

In the same interview, Rutherford confirmed that The Wheel of Time's second season will involve "a bit of a time jump." The star declined to mention exactly how much later Season 2 is set after the events of Season 1, noting only that enough time passes to rid Perrin and his friends of their remaining "naivety." The Wheel of Time author Robert Jordan set the first and second novels in the series, The Eye of the World and The Great Hunt, several months apart, however, it's unclear at this stage if the Prime Video adaptation will adopt a similar timeframe.

Perrin's New Look in The Wheel of Time S2

It's equally uncertain how many of the unverified rumors surrounding The Wheel of Time Season 2 will prove accurate when the next batch of episodes finally airs. Several of these rumors pertain to Perrin, including one regarding a major change to how the character looks. Sources close to the production claim that Rutherford wore yellow contact lenses throughout principal photography on The Wheel of Time's second season, emulating Perrin's signature golden eyes as described in Jordan's novels.

There's also talk that The Wheel of Time Season 2 will introduce Perrin's love interest, Faile Bashere, and not Season 3, as many fans expected. Amazon Studios is yet to confirm that Faile will indeed appear in the show's second season, nor is an actor officially attached to the role. That said, Faile's alleged early arrival in the series tracks with Wheel of Time showrunner Rafe Judkins' stated willingness to combine plot points from different books in a single season.

The Wheel of Time Season 1 is currently streaming on Prime Video. Season 2 does not yet have a release date.
