The Wheel of Time showrunner Rafe Judkins had eight seasons planned out before even writing the pilot.

"My danger will never be running out of books; the challenge we face is how do you tell this story the most cohesively, the most coherently, in what is a reasonable number of seasons," Judkins said during an interview at Comic-Con@Home. "So, I really set out to write, from the beginning -- I think you really need to know the end of your story when you start telling it. I think that’s true for television, even though it’s serialized. I sat down and broke out what I thought eight seasons of the show might look like before I started writing the pilot because I felt like you have to build in this knowledge of where you're going and how you're getting there from the very beginning in order to tell the stories the best you can."

Amazon Prime Video's The Wheel of Time released its first official poster during Comic-Con@Home, which showcased series star Rosamund Pike as Moiraine Damodred of the Aes Sedai. The poster also came with a release date for Season 1, which will premiere in November 2021.

Although Season 1 of The Wheel of Time has yet to premiere, a second season has already been greenlit by Amazon Studios. The premiere of Season 1 was delayed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, but it was recently revealed that production on Season 2 has begun after a photo of a clapperboard from the set was posted on July 19. A trailer for Season 1 is expected to drop later in summer 2021.

The first of Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time high fantasy book series was published in 1990 and consists of fourteen novels. Following Jordan's death in 2007, the final three books in the series were co-written by Brandon Sanderson. The Wheel of Time is set in a world where only women can wield the One Power, and follows a group of young villagers coming to terms with their powers as they are drawn into a worldwide conflict.

Executive produced and written by Judkins, The Wheel of Time stars Pike as Moiraine Damodred and Daniel Henney as her Warder, Lan. Five young villagers will join them on their journey, played by Josha Stradowski, Marcus Rutherford, Zoë Robins, Barney Harris, and Madeleine Madden.
