A new trailer for David Oyelowo's directorial debut, The Water Man, has debuted online.

The film centers on a boy named Gunner (Lonnie Chavis) who has grown up reading tales about an immortal being known as the Water Man. When his mother (Rosario Dawson) falls ill, Gunner embarks on a quest to find the Water Man and the secret of immortality, with the help of local girl Jo (Amiah Miller). In addition to directing The Water Man, Oyelowo also stars as Gunner's father with Alfred Molina and Maria Bello rounding out the cast.

Orpah Winfrey serves as a producer on the film under her Harpo Films banner, with Oyelowo also producing under his Yoruba Saxon banner. The Water Man premiered at the TIFF Film Festival last year, with RLJE Films acquiring the U.S. distribution rights in February and international distribution going to Netflix.

"I grew up loving family films that have adventure, fantasy, and jeopardy whilst never patronizing their young protagonists," Oyelowo said in a statement. "As a father to four children I want to share films with my kids that both entertain and equip them for the highs and lows that lie ahead. I relish watching films with them that both transport our family to a different world and then leave us having meaningful conversations. I love films that do that, so I set out to make one for them, other families, and hopefully, the whole world!"

Directed by and starring David Oyelowo, The Water Man also stars Rosario Dawson, Lonnie Chavis, Amiah Miller, Alfred Molina, and Maria Bello. It will premiere in theaters on May 7.
