WARNING: The following contains spoilers for The Watch, Season 1, Episode 3, "The What?," now available on BBC.

BBC's The Watch has proven to be quite a test for Lady Sybil Ramkin (Lara Rossi) as she tries to teach Ankh-Morpork that all criminals have to pay for their sins. However, while she's joined the cops, she still has that mean vigilante streak in her and won't be wearing the badge anytime soon.

But a new problem has arisen in her personal life, and it all has to do with the captain, Vimes (Richard Dormer), who discovers that he and Sybil are slated to have a romantic future.

Now, Sybil doesn't know of this destiny just yet, as Vimes is parsing through how to tell her the news. He knows he's unkempt and in no way fit for someone elite like her. Still, Vimes can tell there's something that could change all this, so he's intrigued to find out how they're steered down this marriage path.

This arises thanks to his mind-melding with his nemesis, the evil wizard Carcer, who tried to tap into Vimes' mind to find a relic he needs. Carcer requires a unique sword to unleash his dragon on the city, but unfortunately, the mind-meld backfires and Carcer's mind is exposed to Vimes. It's because they once shared a close friendship, and as Vimes slips through Carcer's memories, he sees himself with Sybil, in love and plotting a future with kids in a fancy mansion.

It stuns him because he doesn't know what to do with the info, apart from having hope because he does have a crush on her. Not only is she capable in battle, but she's also saved his life a few times and just fits the Watchmen perfectly. In fact, the way she wants justice inspires Vimes to change how the guilds get away with crime. Still, they're from two different walks of life as he's scum who turned his back on the law and she's someone whose parents died at the hands of the Assassin's Guild.

Now, while Sybil isn't a fan, she can see Vimes trying to be altruistic. What's worth noting is when Vimes fought Carcer and the villain fell off a building into a lightning storm, it seemed like the mage went tripping through time. But while their love does match what transpired in the Discworld novels, this might not be the case in the show. Carcer tells Wonse, his aide, a secretive guild from the future sent him back, which is why he's not aged a day, but he could be lying. However, while these memories could be from spying on the couple, it's still possible they're from an alternate reality. That remains to be seen, but for now, Vimes is in a bind and totally distracted, which could compromise the hunt.

The Watch is executive produced by BBC Studios' Hilary Salmon (Luther) and Phil Collinson (Doctor Who). The series, which will run for eight episodes, is written by Simon Allen (Das Boot). It stars Richard Dormer, Anna Chancellor, Lara Rossi, Ingrid Oliver, James Fleet, Marama Corlett, Sam Adewunmi, Jo Eaton-Kent, Adam Hugill, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Ruth Madeley, Bianca Simone and Ingrid Oliver. The Watch airs Sundays at 8 pm ET/PT on BBC America.
