As AMC heads toward The Walking Dead Season 10, fans can get a first look at Thora Birch as Gamma. The Whisperers will continue to be a villainous presence in The Walking Dead, and it sounds like their ranks are growing when the show returns.

After the shocking events of The Walking Dead's very own Red Wedding in Season 9's penultimate episode, it's clear the harrowing events of the Fair are still on everyone's minds. Daryl and Michonne are set to cross enemy lines in search of revenge and spur the Whisperers back into action with Alpha, Beta and Gamma baying for more blood.

Shared by TV Line, the photos unmask Birch as Gamma. Anyone who's read Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard's comic series of the same name will know Gamma is unique to the show, meaning there isn't a lot to go on when it comes to potential storylines.

Unlike Cassady McClincy's Lydia, Gamma is said to completely understand the ways of the Whisperers and Alpha's twisted machinations. With Lydia being taken under the wing of Daryl Dixon, Gamma could step up to be Alpha's de facto daughter in Season 10.

Following her breakout role in Hocus Pocus, Birch earned critical acclaim for her role as Jane Burnham in American Beauty and has gone on to star in the likes of The Hole and Homeless to Harvard: The Liz Murray Story. The 37-year-old will also be joined by The Leftovers' Kevil Caroll, who has been cast as Virgil, a man anxious to get back to his family.

Birch was announced as Alpha's third in command at this year's Comic-Con International in San Diego. Alongside Birch's introduction, fans were also gifted an action-packed trailer for Season 10 ahead of The Walking Dead's return later this year. While it's clear both sides will need all the help they can get, Gamma's loyalty to Alpha could mean big trouble for Daryl, Michonne and the rest of the communities.
