AMC revealed a sneak peek at The Walking Dead Season 11, Part 3.

The latest trailer, which was released as a part of San Diego Comic-Con 2022, showcases the survivors as they band together for one last mission. The new video begins with a brief timelapse of the previous seasons, providing fans with a reminder of how far the series has come. Before getting too nostalgic, the trailer cuts directly to new footage, highlighting the surviving characters as they reach the end of the story.

The Walking Dead's eleventh-and-final season commenced on AMC on August 15, 2021, kicking off a coda divided into three parts. While the initial set of episodes left some characters to deal with an aggressive group of ex-military survivors called the Reapers, that ordeal was effectively wrapped up by the end of Part 2. Consequently, the series' remaining episodes will dedicate its typically-divided focus to the conflicts ahead for the embattled survivors of Alexandria and Hilltop. Thus, ongoing clashes with the significantly larger de facto nation-state called the Commonwealth will escalate to appropriately climactic levels.

The Walking Dead Comes to a Close

Nearly two years ago, AMC officially revealed that Season 11 of the long-running series would serve as its endpoint. As bittersweet as that announcement was for fans, The Walking Dead's series finale was still quite far away at the time. However, as the show's final SDCC panel makes clear, the time has quickly caught up, and viewers are now left to wonder if it can stick the landing. The climactic episode will arrive under the sizable shadow of the analogous 2020 finale from creator Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead comic book series. That story saw the survivors emerge victorious in their rebellion against the Commonwealth only to experience a tragic epilogue when protagonist Rick Grimes is shot to death in an act of petulance. Thus, with star Andrew Lincoln's role as Rick currently out of the picture, it's reasonable to assume that a beloved current character on the series will end up the recipient of a similar demise in the finale.

Fortunately for fans, The Walking Dead franchise will not be in short supply after the mothership show finally retires. Besides the long-running spinoff Fear the Walking Dead, the upcoming anthology series Tales from the Walking Dead will showcase new avenues of the AMC television canon sporadically spread across the timeline. Indeed, it has already been revealed that one episode will showcase the return of Samantha Morton's Alpha, who famously met a decapitating demise on the main series. As if that wasn't enough, a new spinoff series called Isle of the Dead is now set, directly following up the events of The Walking Dead's series finale by showcasing the New York City-set exploits of Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Negan and Lauren Cohan's Maggie Rhee.

Of course, AMC is also still sitting on a long-anticipated follow-up for the main Walking Dead series, which will see Andrew Lincoln back as former protagonist Rick Grimes. This return will manifest as spinoff movies chronicling the character's further travails after Lincoln's 2018 exit from the main show. His fate remained a mystery ever since a departing scene saw Rick -- gravely injured and washed onto a riverbank -- rescued and whisked away in a helicopter bearing a symbol that viewers of concluded spinoff series The Walking Dead: World Beyond know belongs to the Civic Republic Military (CRM).

The Walking Dead Season 11, Part 3 premieres on AMC on Oct. 2.
