The Walking Dead Season 10c has given the show's writers the perfect opportunity to explore different characters and their backstories. Negan-The-Walking-Dead

Negan was introduced to The Walking Dead in the premiere episode of Season 7, “The Last Day on Earth,” and he made quite the impression. As punishment for Rick’s actions, Negan killed Abraham and Glenn with his weapon of choice, Lucille, a baseball bat he named after his wife. That weapon, along with his sense of humor, became Negan’s calling cards, instilling terror in Rick and the show’s other protagonists. Now, “Here’s Negan” begins with Carol banishing Negan, and after his departure, he goes out to find his old bat, which prompts all kinds of memories.

The most noteworthy revelation from "Here's Negan" is that his wife had cancer. The two of them had been stuck in their home after the apocalypse began, and as a high school chemistry teacher, Negan figured out how to continue her chemo treatments. Unfortunately, one night, they forgot to turn their generator back on and their freezer melted, which ruined all of Lucille’s medication. Negan, against his wife’s wishes, went out in search of a group of traveling doctors, intent on finding supplies to save his wife. After six weeks of tracking, Negan found the small group and attempted to rob them at gunpoint, albeit with an empty pistol. However, after weeks of scavenging, he was not in very good shape. Dehydration, exhaustion and malnutrition made Negan an easy target for a counter-attack.

As Negan held one of the doctors at gunpoint, a woman, who was actually future Savior Laura, was able to sneak up behind him. She hit him over the head with a baseball bat and knocked him out cold. However, when Negan woke up, he found out this group was actually full of good people. They gave him food, an IV and all of the medical supplies he had been looking for. Then, as he was about to leave, Laura bestowed him with one final gift. After asking if his empty pistol was his only defense, Laura offered Negan a new weapon, giving him the very bat she had hit him with.

After revealing Negan was Lucille's first victim, "Here's Negan" goes on to show its last. After Negan digs up the bat in the present, he kills a single walker with the bat, only for it to crack in half. Negan then burns the bat and, in doing so, seemingly destroys the last remaining bit of his former self.
