Michael Cudlitz is headed back to The Walking Dead -- this time behind the camera.

According to ComicBook.com, Cudlitz -- who portrayed the much-loved Abraham Ford for three seasons of the zombie drama -- will be taking on director duties for an episode of Season 9. Cudlitz's Abraham was killed off in the premiere episode of The Walking Dead's seventh season, helping to advance Negan as a character for fans to fear.

Since leaving the fan-favorite character behind, Cudlitz has been beefing up his schedule. He has a new show headed to ABC about an Irish-Catholic family in the 1970s. The series comes from the creators of Last Man Standing, with Cudlitz playing the patriarch of the family. He's also appeared in a handful of webseries episodes and made-for-TV movies.

Cudlitz in the directing chair will mark the first time an actor from The Walking Dead will step behind the camera.

This news marks the latest in a series of exciting announcements for Season 9 of the AMC series, including the return of Jon Bernthal's Shane, a new look for Negan and details regarding the time skip going into this new set of episodes. Expect more to come this week as AMC brings The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead to Hall H at Comic-Con International in San Diego.
