WARNING: The following article includes spoilers for The Walking Dead Season 10, Episode 3, "Ghosts," which aired Sunday on AMC.

Eugene and Rosita have been together for a long time. And the team that stays together slays together (or something), so when there's an ongoing walker incursion in Alexandria during, "Ghosts," the third episode of The Walking Dead's tenth season, the two are shown taking out zombies side by side.

Rosita's clearly relishing the activity. Eugene not so much -- although at least he's holding his own. In fact, it's a little surprising to see Eugene out there at all. Sure, the community needs all the help it can get, but Eugene's not exactly known for his physical prowess. Rosita even thanks him for coming out with her, so clearly she picked their evening activity. When she tries to give him an out so he can leave the front, though, he swears he's good.

In the morning, Rosita returns home with Eugene in tow. She's exhausted. And the two share some friendly banter. Eugene asks where Rosita's baby Coco is. She doesn't seem worried because, unbeknowst to Eugene, Rosita had the foresight to arrange child care. Eugene then reveals that he went out with Rosita to protect her so Coco won't grow up without her mother.

Rosita's amazed -- after all, she's the one who taught Eugene to fight in the first place. Eugene's confused at Rosita's annoyance. So Rosita finally bluntly tells him what she's been trying to reveal to him more subtly: the two of them are never going to get together, nor is he Coco's father. Rosita feels bad for being so harsh, but Eugene finally seems to hear, understand and believe her.

Eugene realizes that he hasn't been listening to Rosita. He thought if he just stuck around long enough she might see him differently. Now he acknowledges there's nothing there. This surprises Rosita. They still have a close friendship. That's not nothing. But as far as Eugene's concerned, from his side, their friendship was built on the premise that their relationship could develop into something more.

Ouch! This leaves them both disappointed and hurt. Eugene is heart-broken and Rosita may have just lost one of her best friends.
