"The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series" is back for Season 3. Debuted at last night's Game Awards, Telltale Games dropped their first look at "The Walking Dead: A New Frontier," the next chapter in their "Walking Dead" series. Though the trailer introduces a new cast of characters, it doesn't go long without the reappearance of a familiar face: Clementine.
The trailer follows Javier, whose father recently passed away. Though he rushed home, his way was blocked by a massive amount of traffic, and he had to leave his car in order to make it. Unfortunately, however, his father had died before he arrived. He encountered his mourning family, bereaved at the loss.
Bereavement quickly turns to horror when Javier's niece informs the family that her grandfather is not dead, after all. The shocked family approaches his room, only to discover -- you guessed it -- a walker instead; this is "The Walking Dead," after all. When a tussle ensues as the walker attacks one of his sons, one member of the family gets a nasty bite and another has to make a terrible choice.
The trailer then flashes forward. Javier is alone, but not for long; Clementine -- who has grown even more since the last time we saw her -- arrives on the scene. "I did whatever I had to to protect them," he tells her, to which she responds, "Sometimes, that's not enough."
According to the game's official description,
When family is all you have left... how far will you go to protect it? Four years after society was ripped apart by undead hands, pockets of civilization emerge from the chaos. But at what cost? Can the living be trusted on this new frontier? As Javier, a young man determined to find the family taken from him, you meet a young girl who has experienced her own unimaginable loss. Her name is Clementine, and your fates are bound together in a story where every choice you make could be your last.
Based on the acclaimed comic series created by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard, the episodic adventure game debuted in April 2012 and focused on Lee, a father figure to Clementine, as the two faced the beginning of the undead apocalypse. Season 1 won 90 Game of the Year Awards after its release. The second season was released in December 2013.
"The Walking Dead: A New Frontier" -- the game's third season -- will be available for download on December 20.
