WARNING: The following contains spoilers for The Umbrella Academy Season 2, streaming now on Netflix.

While the first season of Netflix's The Umbrella Academy was based on the first volume of the comic series by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá, the television series only used the comic as a springboard and, as a result, there were plenty of differences between the two. Characters and beats were toned down or cut for the television series, while others were expanded upon and changed in live-action. And the case was the same for Season 2 of The Umbrella Academy.

The new season of the Netflix series was based on the second volume of the comic series Dallas. Once again, the comic served as the basis for a story that turned out to be wholly different, but there are plenty of times the season tipped its hat to the comic. In Season 2's "The Seven Stages," The Umbrella Academy even made mention of an important piece of technology from the comics -- one that could end up coming into play in Season 3.

In Season 1 of The Umbrella Academy, viewers were introduced to Mom, a female android that acted as the Hargreeves siblings' mother and nanny. Mom was originally built by Sir Reginald Hargreeves to watch over Vanya, who kept on hurting her other nannies. However, in Season 2 of the television series, it was revealed that Mom was actually based on a real woman named Grace Sir Reginald knew back in 1963.

Of course, Grace has no idea who Reginald really is or what he's up to in 1963. Though, she does get a hint from Diego, who pushes her to look deeper into her boyfriend's affairs. In "The Seven Stages," Grace breaks into Reginald's office in the hopes of learning what he's been working on -- and learning the truth about who he really is. There, she finds evidence of multiple projects he is working on, including photographs and detailed plans for John F. Kennedy's assassination, as well as images of a space rocket that indicates he is involved in the upcoming Moon landing. And, on top of that, Grace briefly glances at a blueprint for one of Reginald's inventions called the Televator. For fans of the Netflix series, that may not mean much, but readers of the comics know that the Televator is an important machine.

In the comics, the Televator was invented by Sir Reginald Hargreeves as an elevator lift that allows the team to travel in time, space and even other dimensions. While the Netflix series does most of its time travel thanks to the Commission's briefcases or Five's abilities, the comic uses the Televator for such exploits.

For the time being, the mention of the Televator is nothing more than an Easter egg and a fun nod for fans of the comics. However, it could end up being the first hint as to what Season 3 has in store. If the Televator comes into play, then the team could use it to travel to all sorts of destinations -- whether it's another time period or the far reaches of space.

Streaming now on Netflix, The Umbrella Academy Season 2 stars Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher and Justin H. Min, with Ritu Arya, Yusuf Gatewood, Marin Ireland, Jordan Claire Robbins, Kate Walsh and Colm Feore.
