Tales from the Umbrella Academy: You Look Like Death has really given us insight into the inner-workings of Klaus' mind and just how dark and tragic his past was. We learned more of his traumatic tutelage under Sir Reginald Hargreeves and how his drug habit drove him to Hollywood. To make it worse, he's been harnessing the Void, a supernatural realm, which really highlights that there are aspects to him we never knew existed before The Apocalypse Suite.

However, come Issue #4, while Klaus initially thought he found a dear friend and potential mother in Viv, he learns her devious secret which informs his trust issues that ensue down the line.

Klaus is hiding out from the Shivers, a vampire-chimpanzee who wants his head after Klaus stole drugs from him. This has taken Klaus to Los Angeles where he's harnessing his powers as the Seance, channeling dead actors into Viv -- a washed-up Hollywood star from the Golden Age. Through these possessions, she's winning roles and wowing producers and directors at all turns, but the catch is, she has to keep Klaus high as a kite. This is why the mystical Hollywood Gods intervene to warn Klaus about her dark side.

They spill some details about a kid Klaus saw in a picture with her -- one she quickly hid away and which she gets angry over when quizzed. When Klaus gets back to the mansion, the truth emerges that the child is Clifton: the son Viv killed. Klaus corroborates this by contacting the kid's ghost, who confirms Viv got rid of him, drowning him in the pool as she felt he was hindering her career.

Viv denies it, claiming he fell in and it was an accident as she found him too late, but it seems she threw him in. This breaks Klaus as he did love Viv, but he knows she's a user. The way she offers him drugs to stay with her reiterates that she's no good and just exploiting him until he's of no use to her. As much as he's a junkie, he exits stage left, only for Viv's demonic form -- a giant spider a la It's Pennywise -- to attack him. Thankfully, Klaus uses his powers to dump a car on her, ending their relationship for good.

Viv's left wounded, mentally and physically, yelling he's nothing without her but in a rare virtuous moment, Klaus has peace of mind walking away from this toxicity. Sadly, he's hurting on the inside as once more, the idea of family is broken. It remains to be seen what's the source of Viv's power, with some fans wondering if Clifton was some sort of sacrifice that backfired, rather than Klaus shooting her up with dead souls. That said, chances are Viv will come hunting Klaus down again as he's her golden ticket and the key to a career revival.
