In Tales from the Umbrella Academy: You Look Like Death, Klaus continues to be put through the emotional wringer. After running away from his family in this prequel to The Apocalypse Suite, he's on a drug-binge in Hollywood, placing ghosts into Viv, a washed-up actor, to win her roles again.

However, Klaus continues his worst habits out of a mix of self-loathing and his hate for the Hargreeves family. Now, Klaus is being hunted by a drug-dealing vampire chimp, the Shivers. But come You Look Like Death #4, he finds a means of salvation in the Hollywood Gods, even if the mystical group doesn't seem entirely trustworthy.

Klaus owes the chimp after robbing one of his drug dens, but he thinks he's safe in LA. After passing out, Klaus is picked up by this supernatural crew. Clad in all-white. the Hollywood Gods take him for a spin, making it clear he has power and should be something bigger. They don't think he should be moseying around town with Viv, even revealing she killed her son to advance her career.

They're offering Klaus dreams, though, and in the snap of a finger, he sees his name headlining a show. He calls it a "miracle," but these are the real power-players in Hollywood. However, their timing is so convenient that it seems like they're manipulating him.

They could want to use him for his abilities, just like Viv did, which is why they planted the seed in his mind to leave her. Even if she was ultimately destructive, the Hollywood Gods want to use Klaus themselves, because he can revive the Golden Age of Hollywood if he can harness the ghosts of past and he could improve the art and business for the future. This would, of course, make the Hollywood Gods a lot of money.

They could be tied to the Void, a limbo Klaus gets stuck in when he's high. It seems to want him on a permanent basis, but Klaus keeps escaping back to the land of the living. The Hollywood Gods could be angels testing him and hoping he turns his back to the darkness, which would explain why he meets God later on when he dies. Ultimately, their intentions are uncertain but Klaus may need them to be his saving grace sooner rather than later because after parting ways with Viv, the Shivers has found him and wants his debt repaid in blood.
