The True Superman Arrives, Batman Faces Competition & More in DC Comics’ June Releases

Check out highlights from DC Comics’ June 2016 solicitations!

DC Comics has released its plans for the first month of its Rebirth-branded overhaul, and while many of the month’s releases had already been announced, the full solicitations for DC’s June-releasing titles still held a number of surprises and revelations. Here are the highlights we found.

  • First is the “DC Universe: Rebirth” one-shot, written by Geoff Johns with art by Gary Frank, Ivan Reis, Ethan Van Sciver, Phil Jimenez and more. This is where the DC Universe’s big changes begin, and the solicit text promises a major surprise on the one-shot’s last page.
  • “Superman: Rebirth” and “Superman” will further establish that the pre-New 52 Superman from “Lois & Clark” is now the Superman of the DCU.
  • Scott Snyder and Tom King are co-writing the “Batman: Rebirth” one-shot before King takes over “Batman” with David Finch illustrating. Snyder will write the new “All-Star Batman” series with John Romita Jr. on art.
  • King & Finch’s “Batman” #1 will introduce a new hero that will also serve as Batman’s nemesis due to their mission to “save the city from the Dark Knight.”
  • “Harley’s Little Black Book” #4 features Billy Tucci on art and guest-stars the Bombshells version of Harley Quinn.
  • “Green Arrow” will re-connect Oliver with the Black Canary for the first time since the pre-New 52 DCU.
  • “The Flash: Rebirth” carries a warning not to read the one-shot until you’ve read “DC Universe: Rebirth.”
  • Geoff Johns returns to the Green Lantern Corps, co-writing “Green Lanterns: Rebirth” with Sam Humphries, who will pen the twice-monthly “Green Lanterns” series with Robson Rocha on art.
  • Greg Rucka returns to “Wonder Woman” and immediately hits the character with “an unimaginable loss.”
  • “Wacky Raceland” is the latest Hanna Barbera property to get the DC Comics overhaul. This series is written by Ken Pontac (“Happy Tree Friends”) with art by Leonardo Manco, featuring designs by “Mad Max: Fury Road” storyboard artist Mark Sexton.
  • Dan Jurgens writes “Justice League” #51, while Dan Abnett tackles the script for Issue #52.
  • The “Titans: Rebirth” lineup includes some classic Teen Titan names: Donna Troy, Arsenal, Garth, Lilith and Nightwing are all part of the team.
  • “Red Hood/Arsenal” and “Robin, Son of Batman” reach their final issues.
  • “Dark Knight II: The Master Race” #6 debuts the new Batgirl.
  • Terry McGinnis returns — sort of — in “Batman Beyond” where he stars in an untold story from before his death.
