That's all she wrote on the Farrelly Brothers' long delayed The Three Stooges -- at least for one of the main actors.
Jim Carrey was originally set to play the overweight knucklehead Curly opposite Benicio Del Toro and Sean Penn -- though the revolving door of casting on this thing has moved rather swiftly and steadily -- but now the comedian tells MTV News that he's done with the project.
"I think it's dead," said the actor. "It's dead at least with me."
Carrey didn't seem to have anything negative to say regarding the film's trouble getting off the ground. Instead, he pinned the blame on his need to pack on the pounds in order to adequately play Curly. But at his current age, he doesn't feel like he could come back from that kind of weight gain.
"For me, I don't really want to do anything halfway, and I don't feel like a fat suit does it," he said. "I started experimenting with it a little bit, and I gained 35, 40 pounds. I wanted to gain another 30, 40. When you're [Robert] De Niro in your 20s or early 30s, you can kind of come back from that. It's a tough thing to come back from when you're upwards of 30. Your body can't carry it or you can have a cardiac arrest."
"Put that with Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro slapping me in the head all day long, and someone will lose an eye. It won't be good," he added. "It'll be like 'Midnight Express.' It'll be awful."
