Between being fired -- and later rehired -- from MArvel's Guardians of the Galaxy franchise and starting work on The Suicide Squad for DC and Warner Bros. James Gunn has had quite the eventful year. When Entertainment Tonight inquired about the latter project, Gunn remained tight-lipped.Asked whether his upcoming movie is technically a sequel or a reboot, Gunn cagily refused to choose one of the other.  “You know, these terms are all so narrow. There are so many terms,” he said. “It is what it is. You’ll see in two years, when it comes out.” Details regarding the film have been in flux since he was announced as director, with rumors circulating about the cast and plot information, few of which have been confirmed.

Fans suspect Gunn's film will include more obscure nods to the comic franchise than the previous film, including characters like Polka-Dot Man and Rat Catcher. This belief gained further traction after Gunn took to Instagram to declare his love for the John Ostrander run of Suicide Squad.

T“I have been an enormous fan of #SuicideSquad in all its @DCComics incarnations - but to me there will always be something special about the #JohnOstrander run,” Gunn wrote, accompanying a photo of his personal collection of Suicide Squad comics. “Black ops military tales with disposable, often forgotten super villains?! Pure perfection."
