Newly released The Suicide Squad photos tease a surprising potential battle, explosion or death, as well as the return of previous villainous teammates.
In one of the photos released by Empire magazine, Polka-Dot Man, Peacemaker, Bloodsport and Ratcatcher 2 can be found staring off into the distance with surprised, horrified looks on their faces. However, the significance of this image potentially lies in Peacemaker's bloodied white pants.
Just like in the comics, the iconic team of villains was implanted with remote-controlled explosion devices during the first Suicide Squad film. These devices could instantaneously explode any teammate's head, and their power was clearly showcased when Slipknot attempted to escape early on in the first movie. Peacemaker's blood-stained clothes could be another example of one of these violent head explosions. After all, director James Gunn revealed DC gave him permission to kill off any character in The Suicide Squad.
Another photo showcases some of the film's Suicide Squad teammates, including the return of several of the first film's original cast. Going around the red-lighted van, the characters include TDK, Blackguard, Weasel, Savant, Rick Flag, Captain Boomerang, Javelin, Harley Quinn and Mongal.
Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Michael Rooker as Savant, Flula Borg as Javelin, David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher 2, Idris Elba as Bloodsport, Mayling NG as Mongal, Peter Capaldi as The Thinker, Alice Braga as Solsoria, Steve Agee as King Shark, Pete Davidson as Blackguard, Nathan Fillion as TDK, Sean Gunn as Weasel, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, John Cena as Peacemaker, Taika Waititi and Storm Reid. The film arrives in theaters Aug. 6, 2021.
