James Gunn revealed the official runtime for The Suicide Squad.Responding to a follower on Twitter, Gunn confirmed the movie runs 132 minutes long. "I wrote, filmed [and] edited the best movie I could [and] it ended up at this length," he added in a followup tweet. "No one ever planned for it to be this long."
The Suicide Squad will run nine minutes longer than Suicide Squad (2016)'s theatrical cut, but four minutes shorter than its extended cut on home media. 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is still the longest theatrically-released DC Extended Universe movie to date at 152 minutes, with 2020's Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) being the shortest at 109 minutes. Of course, when you factor in non-theatrical director's cuts, Zack Snyder's Justice League is easily the longest installment in the franchise, running a hefty 242 minutes.
While it remains to be seen if The Suicide Squad receives a warmer critical response than Suicide Squad, costar Joel Kinnaman recently hyped the film as being Gunn's best movie yet. "It just takes it to another level. It's an insane film," said Kinnaman. "At the same time, it was very much the movie that I thought it was going to be because the vision was so clear from the beginning. While we were shooting it, it was so clear what we were doing. It's so entertaining."
Assuming The Suicide Squad is a hit, Gunn seems open to making another DCEU movie. He's currently working on the Peacemaker spinoff series for HBO Max and previously teased the idea of a DCEU project with Harley Quinn actor Margot Robbie, following their collaboration on Task Force X's latest adventure.

The film arrives in theaters and on HBO Max Aug. 6.
