WARNING: The following contains spoilers for The Suicide Squad, now in theaters and on HBO Max.

James Gunn's The Suicide Squad is rated R for "strong violence and gore, language throughout, some sexual references, drug use and brief graphic nudity." Naturally, there's been some curiosity about what this "brief graphic nudity" entails, with reports from early screenings indicating that it's full-frontal male nudity. So, which character drops trow in the irreverent superhero action comedy?

Possibly disappointingly, The Suicide Squad's nude scene does not involve any of the supervillains/anti-heroes of Task Force X. (Well, technically Weasel is naked in every scene in which he appears.) Instead, the full-frontal scene that earned the movie a "brief graphic nudity" warning from the Motion Picture Association involves a nameless man at the freedom fighters' base camp in Corto Maltese.

The nudity occurs within the fight scene when Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Ratcatcher 2, King Shark and Polka-Dot Man arrive at the camp and immediately start killing everyone in sight, falsely assuming these were enemy soldiers.

One of the soldiers is shot dead with his pants down, his penis clearly visible for a few seconds. That doesn't precisely match up with the "exploding genitals" promised by Javelin actor Flula Borg in The Suicide Squad's presentation at DC FandDome 2020, but it's yet another detail establishing the film as firmly R-rated.

While male shirtless scenes are common in superhero movies, full-frontal nudity is much rarer in a genre that tends to stick to a PG-13 rating. Before The Suicide Squad, the most prominent visible penises in superhero movies were Doctor Manhattan's, seen throughout Watchmen, and Deadpool's, seen when he is regrowing his bottom half in Deadpool 2. In the streaming world, The Boys showcased a particularly horrifying super-penis with Love Sausage, while in comics, DC has faced controversy over censoring Batman's genitalia from the adults-only Black Label comic Batman: Damned.

A few seconds of full-frontal nudity in a hyper-edgy movie like The Suicide Squad isn't anything truly revolutionary, but given American culture's hang-ups about nudity and the general sexlessness of most big-budget blockbusters, it's still noteworthy. Just measure your expectations.

To see the moment for yourself, James Gunn's The Suicide Squad is now in theaters and streaming on HBO Max.
