A new collection of images from The Suicide Squad shows off the motley crew of villains and their comedically mismatched costumes.

Hailing from Empire's latest issue, the scenes show off the unlikely heroes Harley Quinn, Ratcatcher 2, Bloodsport, King Shark, Polka-Dot Man and Peacemaker. In one image, the team appears to be standing in the ruins of Corto Maltese, reacting to the destruction caused by the alien kaiju Starro.

In the issue, writer/director James Gunn discussed the way the various Squad members' costumes clash with one another for comedic effect. "I liked the idea of these disparate aesthetics, as if you’re bringing in each of these characters from a different movie or TV show. So Peacemaker is from a 1970s TV show; Bloodsport is more of a modern, scary, grimdark character; Ratcatcher 2 is from some Saw horror film; Javelin looks ridiculous; Savant is kind of cool, but also kind of Def Leppard in the wrong ways; and Harley is Harley! And they’re thrown together in this sort of natural, real world that we present with Corto Maltese, which is very grounded."

Gunn has also spoken about Bloodsport's redesign, in particular, and how proud he is of the work that costume designer Judianna Makovsky and property master Andrew Petrotta did. Bloodsport, in his updated costume, will appear in the pages of the current Suicide Squad comic.

Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Michael Rooker as Savant, Flula Borg as Javelin, David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher 2, Idris Elba as Bloodsport, Mayling NG as Mongal, Peter Capaldi as The Thinker, Alice Braga as Solsoria, Sylvester Stallone as King Shark, Pete Davidson as Blackguard, Nathan Fillion as TDK, Sean Gunn as Weasel, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, John Cena as Peacemaker and Steve Agee, Taika Waititi and Storm Reid. The film arrives in theaters and on HBO Max Aug. 6.
