A sequel to 2016's Suicide Squad, the film features not only returning veterans of Task Force X like Harley Quinn and Captain Boomerang but a bevy of new villains like Bloodsport, King Shark and The Thinker, who are all featured on the Total Film magazine covers. When Gunn was asked if there were any characters he was denied from using, he answered, "No. I got every character I asked for, even though sometimes they were like WTF?" Other characters include Polka-Dot Man and Weasel.

Gunn has also stated that Warner Bros. gave him free rein on the project, saying, "I made every single choice and they never once even slightly interfered. They gave very few notes - they were usually good and minor and I took them if I wanted to and didn't if I didn't want to. Warners was creatively amazing."

Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Michael Rooker as Savant, Flula Borg as Javelin, David Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher 2, Idris Elba as Bloodsport, Mayling Ng as Mongal, Peter Capaldi as The Thinker, Alice Braga as Solsoria, Sylvester Stallone as King Shark, Pete Davidson as Blackguard, Nathan Fillion as TDK, Sean Gunn as Weasel, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, John Cena as Peacemaker, and Steve Agee, Taika Waititi and Storm Reid. The film arrives in theaters and on HBO Max Aug. 6.
