Idris Elba, who plays Bloodsport in DC's The Suicide Squad, suggested that he may not be done with the Marvel Cinematic Universe yet.

In an interview with ComicBook.com, Elba was asked about his role in the DC Extended Universe and whether or not he had become a "DC exclusive actor" following the apparent death of his MCU character, Heimdall. When posed the question, Elba was adamant to point out the word "seemingly" with regard to Heimdall's death. "I think that I'm excited about the possibilities in the DC world," Elba said. "And I think the word of choice to make note of is the word 'seemingly.'"

Heimdall was an all-seeing and all-knowing Asgardian warrior as well as the guardian of the Bifrost Bridge. The character has appeared in five Marvel Studios films to date: Thor, Thor: The Dark World, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War. He acted as Asgard's gatekeeper prior to its fall. Heimdall "seemingly" met his demise at the hands of Thanos, after the Mad Titan boarded the Statesman (the ship used to escort Asgard's citizens off-planet) in search of the Tesseract. Heimdall used the Bifrost Bridge to send Hulk to Earth, which caused Thanos to retaliate and kill him.

The interview isn't the first time that Elba has suggested that Heimdall could still be alive. In a 2019 interview, Elba suggested that Heimdall's powers could've saved him. "Heimdall is essentially part of the god family," Elba said. "So you know, he essentially could be alive. I'm just saying! I'm just putting it out there! ... The Heimdall character goes back into, you know, the Thor mythology. And I'm sure there will be an interesting way to bring that alive."

The MCU is no stranger to resuscitating seemingly dead characters. Both WandaVision and Loki reintroduced characters that had apparently perished (also at the hands of Thanos): Vision and Loki, respectively. While Elba hasn't been confirmed to appear in Thor: Love and Thunder, the actor has been spotted with the film's cast as well as with director Taika Waititi. While this doesn't necessarily mean that Elba is returning for the upcoming Thor sequel, it would place him in the right location during its filming.

Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad arrives in theaters and on HBO Max on Aug. 6. Directed by Taika Waititi, Thor: Love and Thunder arrives in theaters May 6, 2022.
