In 2022, Rocksteady Studios will finally release Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, the follow-up to their critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham video game series. In addition to the titular teams, the game features appearances by various characters from across the DC Universe, including the sinister inventor Gizmo. The green-wearing tech genius has never been one of DC's major players, but he has made appearances in several pieces of media throughout the years, most notably in the iconic Teen Titans animated series.

In the comic book source material, Gizmo first appeared in the pages of The New Teen Titans in 1981. His real name is Mikron O'Jeneus, and he is a genius inventor who uses a jetpack as his main mode of transportation. He is also a member of the villainous Fearsome Five, who frequently come into conflict with the Teen Titans and other DC heroes. And while O'Jeneus is eventually killed after a mission with the Fearsome Five, his son took up the mantle of Gizmo.

Gizmo Teen Titans Comics

The most well-known adaptation of Gizmo is from the 2003 Teen Titans animated series. The show reimagines him as an immature but incredibly smart pre-teen boy, who uses a backpack that can produce several different inventions. Voiced by Lauren Tom, Gizmo is the only villain to physically appear in every season of Teen Titans.

Gizmo is introduced as a recent graduate of the H.I.V.E. Academy, who is hired by the mysterious Slade to kill the Teen Titans. He and his teammates fail, though, and are sent back to school. After the H.I.V.E. Academy is destroyed by the Titans, Gizmo forms the H.I.V.E. Five (the show's version of the Fearsome Five) along with several other former students. Throughout the course of the show, Gizmo has a bitter rivalry with Cyborg, with both of them trying to prove that they are better with technology than the other.

Gizmo has also made several appearances in Teen Titans Go!, with Lauren Tom reprising her role. In addition to the animated shows, Gizmo appears in live-action in the premiere of Titans Season 3, where he is portrayed by actor Dov Tiefenbach. He has also appeared in several video games prior to Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, including DC Universe Online.

Despite never having had a leading role in any of his appearances, Gizmo is a reliable villain whose particular set of skills allows for numerous story possibilities. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will seemingly see him serving as tech support for Task Force X, but it seems likely that the pint-sized inventor will end up being involved in some action as well. After all, if anyone on the Squad's side has the intellect to deal with Brainiac, it's Gizmo.
