Writer/director James Gunn has formally completed post-production on The Suicide Squad ahead of its scheduled release in theaters and on HBO Max.In a thread on Twitter, Gunn confirmed "we completely finished [The Suicide Squad] this week, VFX and all." He admitted it's "unusual" to have a tentpole of this scale completed more than three months ahead of its release date, "but I always planned to have it done by now. What's more unusual is that we didn't do a single shot of pickups or any [post-production] shooting. Outside of Chris Nolan, that almost never happens, if at all, on tentpole superhero films."RELATED: Harley Quinn's King Shark Reacts to Stallone Joining Mar-a-Lago Club

When asked what he'll be up to between now and the DC Extended Universe movie's release, Gunn said, "There's nothing left to do other than me looking at marketing [and] toys, doing publicity [and] waiting for the world to heal just a little more so a larger number of people can see it safely in theaters, where it is intended to be seen." He also re-iterated that Warner Bros. never interfered with his vision for The Suicide Squad, having previously said "They gave very few notes -- they were usually good and minor and I took them if I wanted to and didn't if I didn't want to. Warners was creatively amazing."

Marking recently kicked with the release of The Suicide Squd's red band trailer, offering audiences their first look at the film's versions of Task Force X members such as Bloodshot, Polka-Dot Man, Ratcatcher 2 and King Shark, along with returning DCEU fan-favorites like Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn. The promo went on to break Mortal Kombat's red band trailer viewership record, amassing over 150 million views worldwide in its first week of release.
