Yeardley Smith, the voice of Lisa Simpson, really wants her character to make friends with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and The Simpsons' writers are trying to make that happen.

The first question asked at "The Simpsons Season 33 and Beyond" panel at Comic-Con@Home 2021 came from Smith, who asked, "Can we please have an episode where Lisa Simpson befriends The Rock?" The other panelists laughed in response, with director Mike Anderson joking, "We could do an actual rock." However, Smith was serious, going on to say "It just sounds like a natural fit." Writer Carolyn Omine asked if Smith was kidding, to which she responded she wasn't.

It turns out Smith and Omine have actually been thinking on the same page. Omine wasn't sure how much she was allowed to say about an episode still in its early planning stages, but after encouragement from fellow writer and producer Matt Selman, Omine announced "There is a story that we came up with, Lisa and The Rock, but we don't know yet. We're still hoping The Rock will hear us. If anybody knows The Rock, tell him that we want that!"

Apparently, Smith has been pushing for a Lisa Simpson-Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson meet-up for a while, saying, "I've only been saying this was a great idea every time I do an interview for about the last two years. They're like, 'So what guest star would you like to have on The Simpsons?' and I'm like, 'Well, I would like to have Dwayne Johnson. I would like him to befriend Lisa Simpson. Duh.'"

Making a plea to the wrestler-turned-actor, Selman said, "I guess to The Rock, I would say, 'Can you smell what the show is pitching?' Rock, if you're out there anywhere, we have a great part for you." Showrunner Al Jean noted, "If The Rock is watching this, I bet he'll do the show." Director David Silverman made an additional semi-joking plea to Dwayne Johnson, saying, "I think it would be really good for your career too," to which Smith added, "Probably, if you need a little boost, you know."

Given just how many major celebrities have shown up as guest stars on The Simpsons over its 32 seasons, it's almost surprising to realize Dwayne Johnson hasn't appeared on the show yet. Fans will have to wait and see if The Rock decides to go along with this proposed episode idea.

Season 33 of The Simpsons will premier this September.
