The Shield creator Shawn Ryan hasn't had the best go of things lately, with Terriers and The Chicago Code each getting canceled after just one season. Okay, he didn't create the woefully underrated and short-lived Terriers, but he was showrunner and a writer, so it counts.
Now, however, it looks as if Ryan is bouncing back, first with a pilot commitment from CBS for a crime drama with Criminal Minds' Simon Mirren, and now, more intriguingly, for a futuristic thriller with Dead Like Me writer Karl Gajdusek landing at ABC.
Deadline reports the Sony Pictures Television project, called The Last Resort, is set in the near future, when the crew of a U.S. nuclear submarine becomes hunted after ignoring an order to launch its missiles. The crew members escape to a NATO listening outpost, where they declare themselves to be the world's smallest nuclear nation.
Ryan and Gajdusek, who penned the upcoming feature film Trespass, will write the pilot episode.
