If you have been on Netflix at any point in the last couple of years, you will have seen either Stranger Things or The Seven Deadly Sins at some point. The two series are both staples of Netflix's programming, but that's where most of the similarities end. However, it has recently been announced that a number of Stranger Things characters are going to be arriving in the mobile game Seven Deadly Sins: Grand Cross. Nobody could have imagined these two franchises crossing over in the game.

The properties do share some similarities, at least on the surface. Both follow a cast of characters that are trying to seal their world from an other-dimensional attacking force. In the case of The Seven Deadly Sins, there are demons coming from Purgatory at the whim of the Demon King. Stranger Things, meanwhile, has the Mind Flayer trying to breach into our world from the Upside Down. However, there are more than enough differences to make this crossover an odd choice.

One of the biggest differences has to do with the way that the characters deal with their respective threats. The Seven Deadly Sins is more focused on the action and the fights between the characters. Stranger Things does not share this focus and makes it very clear that the threat its characters face cannot be defeated in a fist-fight. While Eleven could possibly fight in the world of the Sins, the other characters wouldn't be able to. Stranger Things' cast focuses on using their wits and situation to deal with threats, not their fists. This makes sense, considering most of the cast are children.

Another difference has to do with the worlds that the two series inhabit. The Seven Deadly Sins is set in a pseudo-medieval world filled with magic and giant pigs. Stranger Things is based in small, 1980s American town. From the brief trailer, it is evident that the characters will be retaining their looks and design. It isn't the first time that the Seven Deadly Sins game has introduced characters from another series. They have introduced some of the Attack on Titan cast as playable characters, for example. However, seeing Eren Jager run around with knights in armor is a lot less jarring than imagining Jim Hopper hunting for Eggo waffles in a Medieval market.

Frankly, it would be easy to suggest that this is simply Netflix combining two of its most popular series for an easy cash-grab. However, it could also be seen as an attempt to bring in new fans and get them interested in something outside their comfort zone. Most likely, it's a little bit of both. All we can do for now is wait and see if Eleven, Hopper, Will and Mike will be able to help stem the tides of demons alongside Meliodas and the other Sins.
