The Seven Deadly Sins anime features an intriguing cast of characters who wield tremendous magic power. Many of these characters were initially granted epic introductions that set the tone for their arcs in the series and made getting to know these characters all the more exciting.

Some of these introductions were long awaited while some, though viewers saw it coming, were still incredibly satisfying to watch. The showrunners did a really good job maintaining suspense until these characters emerged. The Four Archangels are the highest ranked in power among the Goddess Clan. Among their ranks was the resourceful, talented, and charismatic Ludociel. He was introduced as the leader of the Four Archangels and the guardian of Stigma, the allied forces of the Human, Giant, and Fairy races. He was depicted as rather cunning and was dedicated to wiping out the Demon Race and winning the Holy War.

Harlequin always went by the name King, and for many of his early appearances, viewers believed his true name to be just that. But during his fight against a holy knight in the Necropolis, he was reintroduced by his sister Elaine who stated that his true name is Harlequin, King of the Fairies. This left viewers in a state of shock because he didn't just go by "King," it turned out that he was an actual king who used his immense power to protect the Fairy Realm for centuries.

King of Camelot Arthur Pendragon arrived at the kingdom of Liones to meet with the king, but instead he was met with deadly resistance by Holy Knight Grand Master Hendrickson. Arthur was traveling with a mage who seemed rather skilled. After defeating the knights who attacked her and joining up with Meliodas and Arthur, she revealed herself to be the Boar's Sin of Gluttony, Merlin, the greatest wizard on the continent of Britannia.

7 Gowther's Introduction Was Shocking, To Say The Least

An armored giant believed to be Gowther was spotted and under orders, the Roars of Dawn gave chase to slay him. This giant was traveling with a rather frail-looking individual who liked to read.

During their assault, the holy knight squad were intercepted by Meliodas and his friends who attempted to protect what they thought was Gowther. At the last minute, it was revealed that the giant was in fact not Gowther; rather, it was the bookworm he was traveling with that was introduced as Gowther, the Goat's Sin of Lust.

6 The Ten Commandments Were Introduced As Serious Threats To Be Feared

Of all the enemies the Seven Deadly Sins had to face, the Ten Commandments were the first real threats. The very earth shook when their seal was broken and it was then that people knew a serious war was coming to Britannia. The Commandments were initially depicted as powerful, arrogant, and merciless, and for the most part, that was indeed the case. The fight with Galand of Truth put into perspective the might of the Ten Commandments.

5 The Demon King Was As Terrifying As Fans Hoped He'd Be

Ever since viewers first learned of the Demon Clan and Demon King's existence, they wondered what such a being would be like. Season after season, viewers were fed nothing but glimpses of the Demon King. It wasn't until the final season, during Ban and Meliodas' time in Purgatory, that fans finally saw the Demon King in all his unholy glory. He was simply gigantic, enough so that the word "intimidating" might seem like an understatement. It was clear why he was feared even by the Goddess race.

4 Ban's First Appearance Was Chaotic And Exciting

Ban was first shown in a prison cell impaled with large spikes, but all the while, he was humming away without a care in the world. When he broke out of the prison, he confessed that the only reason he let himself get captured was that he was bored and needed to try something more fun.

He met up with his best pal Meliodas and the two commenced their arm wrestling match. The result of their release of magic power was the instant demolition of Baste Prison.

3 Mael Of The Four Archangels Had The Most Surprising Introduction Of All

Mael's name was first mentioned when Ludociel ordered Nerobasta to summon him from the Celestial Realm to render aid in the ongoing battle. He was said to be second in power only to the Supreme Deity. When Ludociel told Escanor about him and his power, every fan of the show was curious to know more about such a powerful being.

Ludociel revealed that Estarossa of the Ten Commandments had killed Mael, but the truth was far from what everyone suspected. The original Gowther used a forbidden spell to manipulate the memories of all who knew Mael, including Mael himself, and Mael then became one of the Ten Commandments under the name...Estarossa.

2 Meliodas' Introduction Was As Confusing As Snow On A Summer Day

The Boar Hat Tavern was run by a really small "boy." Within, patrons were discussing how dreadfully powerful and evil the Seven Deadly Sins were, and there were even posters of elderly-looking Sins on the wall.

The fellow who owned the bar helped resuscitate a princess when she collapsed in his bar. Some holy knights mistook her for one of the Seven Deadly Sins and chased after her, but this fellow saved her yet again. Afterwards, he revealed himself to be the Dragon's Sin of Wrath, Meliodas, captain of the Seven Deadly Sins. This shook every viewer to their core, as they expected the captain to be some fearsome-looking man in his forties, not this little "kid."

1 Escanor's Introduction Was Grand Indeed

Ban, Elaine, and Jericho were being chased by two of the Ten Commandments, Galand and Melascula, and they wound up in a cave in a mountain. As they progressed further, they were shocked to find was a bar there. The bartender was a feeble and easily shaken individual who seemed to recognize Ban. When Galand and Melascula arrived, Galand insisted that they play a game to determine the fate of the bartender and the people hiding with him.

Upon accepting, the bartender was shoved aside and collapsed on the ground. As day broke, the bartender emerged with his body welling up in size and rippling with large muscles, revealing himself to be the Lion's Sin of Pride, Escanor. With his overwhelming power, he easily defeated the two Commandments and was as prideful as befits his name.
