Fan-favorites Merv Pumpkinhead, with Mark Hamill voicing the immortal, wise-cracking, pumpkin-headed character, and Goldie the Gargoyle are also set to debut in Season 1. First Sandman Clips Introduce Death and Lucifer

Following the release of several Sandman trailers, Netflix released the first two clips from the upcoming drama series. The scenes introduced viewers to two key characters from The Sandman mythology: Kirby Howell-Baptiste's Death and Gwendoline Christie's Lucifer Morningstar. Tom Sturridge's Morpheus/Dream also appeared in both clips. After the clip featuring Howell-Baptiste's Death was released, Gaiman posted online that he had cried the first time he "saw this scene in the finished episode." He also stated, "If you are wondering why I cast Kirby as Death, this is why." Gaiman previously praised Howell-Baptiste's performance as Death when he defended The Sandman's color-blind casting process after some fans were upset over the character's not being faithfully adapted from the page to the screen.
