The following contains spoilers for The Sandman Season 1, now streaming on Netflix.

The Sandman is currently the biggest streaming show on the planet, according to recently released data.

Drawing upon figures supplied by data science company Parrot Analytics, The Wrap reports that The Sandman drummed up "23.8 times the demand of the average series" following its Aug. 5 premiere. This number was determined by compiling a range of engagement statistics, including consumer research, streaming, downloads and social media activity. Parrot Analytics also observed that The Sandman's strong performance was in-line with the equally positive response enjoyed by other adaptations of works co-created by Neil Gaiman, such as Good Omens and Lucifer.

The company's data tracks with earlier reports that The Sandman topped Netflix's streaming charts two weeks in a row, and bodes well for the show's chances of landing a renewal order. Executive producer David S. Goyer previously mentioned that The Sandman Season 2's scripts are already being written, even though Netflix has yet to officially greenlight another batch of episodes. Goyer added that the writing process has in some ways been easier this time around, now that Season 1 has established many of the original comics' key characters and concepts.

What To Expect From Sandman Season 2

For his part, Gaiman is already teasing the Dream/Lucifer Morningstar showdown foreshadowed in The Sandman Season 1's finale, "Lost Hearts." "[W]e just carry on with this story [in Season 2]," he said. "That's kind of marvelous that anybody who has seen Season 1… when we tell them that Season 2 [is] going to begin with the big Lucifer-Morpheus rematch they get very excited. Little do they know what's going to happen and that they are simply not prepared for where it's gonna go."

Gaiman also recently confirmed that he's planning to introduce Dream's remaining siblings, Destiny, Destruction and Delirium, in The Sandman Season 2. The celebrated scribe said he was currently mulling over which actors could portray the latter two members of the Endless family and continually sends casting suggestions to fellow executive producer and showrunner Allan Heinberg. "Right now, what we’re doing is every time I think of or run into or pass or notice an actor who could be either a Destruction or a Delirium, Allan gets an email," Gaiman said.

There's no word yet on when The Sandman's second season will arrive, should it get the go-ahead from Netflix. Until then, fans will have to tide themselves over with Season 1's bonus two-part episode "A Dream of A Thousand Cats/Calliope" which was uploaded without fanfare on Aug. 19, 2022.
