ABC's police drama The Rookie starring Nathan Fillion has been renewed for a sixth season.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Rookie will return for a sixth season in 2023 and 2024, a renewal that came just weeks before the show's upcoming Season 5 finale on May 2. Since its move to ABC's Tuesday night slot in January, The Rookie has seen a significant jump in ratings, with a 31% increase in its same-day audience compared to its original Sunday night average.

Overall, The Rookie's Tuesday night airings -- which lead into its spinoff, The Rookie: Feds -- have seen a 40% increase in total viewers aged 18 to 49 compared to 2022. Season 6 will also see The Rookie cross its 100-episode milestone. The Rookie joins other ABC series to be renewed for the 2023-2024 season, along with Abbott Elementary and Grey's Anatomy

Created by Alexi Hawley, The Rookie originally aired on ABC in October 2016. The series stars Fillion as John Nolan, who is determined to follow his lifelong dream of being an LAPD officer and becomes the department's oldest rookie. Apart from Fillion, The Rookie stars Mekia Cox, Alyssa Diaz, Richard T. Jones, Melissa O’Neil, and Eric Winter.

The Season 5 finale of The Rookie airs on ABC on May 2.
