The upcoming “Rampage” film, based on the popular 1980s video game and starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, is in talks to add Joe Manganiello ("True Blood") and Marley Shelton ("Planet Terror") to its cast, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Directed by Brad Peyton and produced by Beau Flynn, not much is known about the film other then the fact that it will star three creatures - a gorilla, crocodile, and wolf - who go on a rampage across various North American cities, much like the game it’s based on.

Johnson’s character will reportedly be an “animal loving hero who is the world’s only hope," and Naomie Harris, now famous for her role in “Moonlight," will play a geneticist with “a moral streak." Should Manganiello join the film, he will portray the leader of a private military group, and Shelton will be a scientist and astronaut. Given the exact nature of the roles, it’s not hard to imagine Manganiello and Johnson will be at odds with each other throughout the film.

How Manganiello's casting effects his role in the upcoming DC Comics-based film "The Batman" is unclear at this point. The actor was announced to play the villainous mercenary Deathstroke in the film late last year.
