Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is no stranger to hip hop, and now, the Most Electrifying Man in All of Entertainment has made his return to the rap scene.

Johnson is one of several artists featured in Tech N9ne's new song "Face Off" from the album ASIN9NE.

"One take," Johnson told Variety. "I was drinking Teremana, so I had already been a bit lit and was ready to go. We sent it to Tech and his engineers and the text I got back from Tech, in all capital letters, was 'Fuck yes!!!!'"

"I never had the ambition to be a hip-hop artist or a rapper, so the direct answer is no," Johnson added about whether music is a big part of his future. "But I did see an opportunity here to create a song that really inspired and motivated me to push for more and fight for more. I’ve always loved music. I love hip hop and blues and outlaw country music. If the song is right and if the collaboration feels real and authentic, I would love that. I would love to do a repeat with Tech N9ne and Strange Music. If I had the opportunity to collaborate with another artist out there — hip-hop artists, blues artists, outlaw country artists — then let’s talk and let’s figure it out. If I could rap about the right words that feel real and authentic to me, then I’ll be happy to break out that Teremana, take a few big swigs and jump back into the studio."

This isn't the first time The Rock has delved into the world of hip hop. The final track on 2001's WWF The Music, Vol. 5 was "Pie," performed by The Rock with Slick Rick and co-written by Ricky Waters and Brian Gewirtz. The song employed both rap and spoken word as The Rock brought the decidedly adult "pie" aspect of his pro-wrestling gimmick to life.

In more recent years, Johnson's rap experience has been able to contribute to his immense success as a movie star. In 2016's Moana, The Rock's lyrics for the hit song "You're Welcome" include several bars of rap, which he channeled in a viral 2020 video while teaching one of his daughters how to properly wash her hands to stay safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.
