Disney+ released a first look at character designs from its upcoming animated series The Proud Family: Prouder and Louder, a revival of the 2001 animated sitcom The Proud Family.
Creator and executive producer Bruce W. Smith and executive producer Ralph Farquhar open the "New Family Tree" clip with a rundown of The Proud Family's cast. The Proud Family: Prouder and Louder clip shows Penny Proud alongside parents Oscar and Trudy, twin sisters Bebe and Cece, Uncle Oscar and Penny's grandmother Suga Mama with her dog Puff.
The supporting cast includes the Prouds' next-door neighbors Felix and Sunset Boulevardez, their daughter Lacienega (Penny's frenemy) and Felix's Papa who's in a tumultuous relationship with Suga Mama. Rounding out the cast are Penny's friends Zoey Howzer and Dijonay Jones, as well as the new character Maya Leibowitz-Jenkins.
"She's woke, y'all," Farquhar said while discussing Maya's character in the series.
"We're excited to bring The Proud Family back for original fans and also introduce this family to a whole new generation of fans," Smith added. The Proud Family: Prouder and Louder will feature the return of the original series' entire cast, and "The Family Tree" video features sleeker character designs that hew fairly close to the original series' aesthetic. "In our minds, the show never really went away, as we still had tons of stories left to tell," Smith and Farquhar previously said when the series' revival was announced.
The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder stars Kyla Pratt as Penny Proud, Tommy Davidson as Oscar Proud, Paula Jai Parker as Trudy Proud, Jo Marie Payton as Suga Mama, Karen Malina White as Dijonay Jones, Soleil Moon Frye as Zoey Howzer and Alisa Reyes as LaCienega Boulevardez, with Cedric the Entertainer as Uncle Bobby Proud. The series has yet to receive a premiere date.
