Created by Garth Ennis (The Boys, Preacher) and Palmiotti, The Pro was originally published as a one-shot by Image Comics in 2002. Written by Ennis, illustrated and lettered by Conner, inked by Palmiotti and colored by Paul Mounts (Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man), the comic follows the titular "Pro," a prostitute who reluctantly joins a superhero team known as the League of Honor (a not-so-subtle parody of DC's Justice League) after being granted powers of her own. Later editions of the book also include a bonus story titled "The Pro Vs. The Ho."

Back in 2009, Conner and Palmiotti floated the idea of a live-action adaptation of the comic. Several years later, in 2017, Paramount Pictures actually optioned the movie rights to The Pro, with Zoe McCarthy being tapped to pen the screenplay. However, there have been no updates on the prospective project in the five years since.
