Hulu and 20th Century Studios have released a new trailer for The Princess, a new adventure film that takes a bunch of Disney and fairy tale tropes and runs in completely the opposite direction with them.

The trailer for The Princess, which is directed by Le-Van Kiet, opens with a premise similar to a Disney cartoon such as Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty or a myriad of others. Joey King (The Conjuring, The Kissing Booth 3) is a princess who is being locked away in a high tower, seemingly stuck there until she's rescued by some grand knight in shining armor. The princess, however, isn't waiting for another man's arrival. Instead, she's taking matters into her own hands as she frees herself from imprisonment and sets out on a quest for revenge against a character played by Dominic Cooper (Preacher, Captain America: The First Avenger).

Once free of the tower, the princess battles a number of foes, some of who are slain in fairly bloody fashion, with a variety of weapons, including swords, a crossbow, chains and her own fists. Ultimately, the princess is trying to make her way to Cooper's character, who she previously almost married before being locked away in the tower. Joan Jett's "Bad Reputation" sets the mood for the trailer, as the princess doesn't appear in presenting any form of the "lady-like behavior" Cooper's character wants out of her.

Along with King and Cooper, The Princess also stars Olga Kurylenko (Black Widow, Quantum of Solace) and Veronica Ngo (The Old Guard, Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi). In the trailer, Ngo's character appears to be fighting alongside King and is presented as some sort of ally. Kurylenko, on the other hand, appears to be taking on an antagonist role, as she tells King that she "underestimated her" in one moment before the two begin attacking one another.

The script comes from Ben Lustig and Jake Thornton, while Neal H. Moritz (the Fast and Furious franchise), Toby Jaffe (2012's Total Recall) and Derek Kolstad (John Wick) serve as executive producers. King and Guy Riedel are also executive producers on the project.

The Princess will release on July 1 on Hulu in the United States, Star+ in Latin America and Disney+, under the Star banner, in all other territories.
