Based on the 1973 novel of the same name by William Goldman, The Princess Bride premiered on Sept. 25, 1987 in the United States. It was a modest box office success, earning $30.9 million off a $16 million budget. However, it was well-received by critics and became a cult classic over time. The film follows a farmworker who, along with his trusted companions, races to rescue Princess Buttercup from the evil Prince Humperdinck.

Rumors of a modern remake of the film surfaced in Sept. 2019 after a Sony executive said that "very famous people" want to redo the film. Elwes, however, came out strongly against it. Since then there has been no other news regarding the potential remake.

Directed by Rob Reiner and written by William Goldman, The Princess Bride stars Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Mandy Patinkin, Chris Sarandon, Wallace Shawn, André the Giant, Christopher Guest, Fred Savage and Peter Falk.
