Following the path forged by Marvel's Alien series, the Predator will also be getting his own comic from Marvel. A solo series will see the sci-fi/horror icon target people on Earth, bringing the character officially to the Marvel Universe.

There's always the possibility -- such as with Conan the Barbarian and his tenure with the Savage Avengers -- that the character ends up being inducted into the larger scope of the Marvel Universe. If that's the case, then there are plenty of heroes and villains who would make great combatants for the villain, but perhaps none as perfect as Spider-Man's frequent foe, Kraven the Hunter.

Marvel's Predator Series From Brisson and Walker Finally Gets a Release Date

In many ways, Kraven might be the closest thing the Marvel Universe currently has to a Predator-like character. Across the history of the sci-fi franchise, the Predator race has been shown to value a twisted code of honor to their hunts. It's no fun for them if their targets aren't in peak condition and willing to put up a fight, offering the galactic collectors a genuine hunt. Kraven operates similarly, always seeking to challenge himself by trying to hunt down powerhouses like Spider-Man. Without the chance to prove himself and his skills, there's no purpose to his hunts, which gives him a character similarity with the Predator.

Likewise, both actually operate from similar places of weaponry and training. While both Kraven and the Predator have been shown repeatedly to be able to hold their own in fights against physical threats, they largely rely on hunter's tactics and tools to achieve their goals. Kraven is typically far less hi-tech than Predator (who brings alien technology to his campaigns), but both utilize traps and hunting techniques to target their foes. In fact, Kraven's status as one of Marvel's premier hunters makes him ideal as a test for the Predator, especially as someone the typically villainous Kraven can go all out against.

Kraven the Hunter

In theory, Kraven could even more or less face off with the Predator and become the Marvel equivalent of Arnold Schwarzenegger's Dutch from the original Predator film. This may honestly be the best way to make the traditionally villainous character more palatable to audiences as a protagonist. A highly trained marine who quickly saw the rest of his squad picked off by the Predator, Dutch resorted to low-end techniques and strategies to counteract the Predator's own highly advanced weaponry. He eventually turned their hunter's duel into a brutal fight that resorted to bladed weapons and fists. Kraven is exactly the kind of character who would utilize a similar plan, trying to lure the Predator into a situation where his technological superiority can't just earn him a victory.

By pushing Kraven more in this direction, Marvel could actually realign Kraven following years when he's alternated between his villainous past and a brief stint as a potentially redeemed friend of Squirrel Girl. It's quietly an ideal situation for both characters. For the Predator, it'd be an ideal way to pit him against a Marvel character who's not necessarily a hero, allowing the fight to become as brutal and hard-hitting as it can be. The Predator's code of conduct while on the hunt could easily allow him to find an equal foe with Kraven. Meanwhile, with Kraven getting his own live-action movie in 2023, it's the perfect opportunity for Kraven to get his own storyline that showcases his skill set while pitting him against a genuine threat, highlighting the character as more of a unique figure instead of playing him as a villain against other heroes.
