Fox has decided to pull the plug on The Passage, the network's vampire drama, after just one season.

The series, which wrapped up its first season in March, will not return for a second season. The news was announced today by Fox, with the network also axing fellow new series "The Cool Kids." The move comes after a long and trouble journey to the small screen. In 2011, Matt Reeves initially signed on to helm a feature film adaption of The Passage. However, in 2017, the project went on to find itself being re-developed for the small screen by executive producer Reeves and Scott Free Productions' Ridley Scott and David W. Zucker.

Unfortunately, things never quite got easier for the series after Fox picked up the rights. According to Variety, the project was pushed from 2018 to this year after Fox executives opted to retool the pilot after it reportedly failed to meet expectations. This led to them bringing in another director for reshoots, as the initial director was no longer available. To make matters worse, the ten-episode first season also failed to capture audiences once it finally premiered earlier this year.

The series premiere managed to secure 5.2 million live viewers and a 1.3/5 in the coveted 18-49 demographic. Unfortunately, though, the series later went on to average around 0.9 adults 18-49 rating with 3.73 million live viewers.
