The Owl House initially premiered on Disney Channel on Jan. 10, 2020, with Season 1 running for a total of 19 episodes, concluding on Aug. 29, 2020. Season 2 premiered on June 12, 2021, running for 21 episodes and concluding on May 28, 2022. It was one year prior, in May 2021, that Disney Channel renewed The Owl House for a shortened Season 3, which would also be its last. As previously stated, Season 3 consists of three specials, each running at 44 minutes. "Thanks to Them," the first of these specials, premiered on Oct. 15, 2022.

The Owl House centers on Luz Noceda (Sarah-Nicole Robles), a teenage girl with an affinity for fantasy novels and weirding out her classmates. Luz's mother Camila (Elizabeth Grullon) attempts to send her to a camp to make her more "normal," though Luz instead stumbles upon a portal that transports her to a magical archipelago known as the Boiling Isles. Upon her arrival, Luz moves in with a powerful witch named Eda Clawthorne (Wendie Malick) and her demon roommate King (Alex Hirsch). Eda, King and Luz live in the Owl House, which is guarded by the house demon known as Hooty (Hirsch).

The Owl House Sets the Stage for Its Finale

In the Season 2 finale, Luz and company attempted to thwart the evil Emperor Belos/Philip Wittebane's (Matthew Rhys) Day of Unity, which, unbeknownst to the denizens of the Boiling Isles, would kill all witches and demons of the demon realm by draining their magic. King ultimately managed to stop Belos' draining spell by freeing the Collector (Fryda Wolff), only for the mischievous being to pose a new threat by beginning to reshape the Boiling Isles in his own image.

Luz, her girlfriend Amity Blight (Mae Whitman) and their friends Gus Porter (Issac Ryan Brown), Willow Park (Tati Gabrielle) and Hunter (Zeno Robinson) were then forced to escape to Luz's native human realm with no clear way back to the demon realm, leaving King, Eda and their other friends and allies to uncertain fates. Season 3's first special chronicled the gang's adventures in the human realm -- and their efforts to make it back to the Boiling Isles.
