At the 1st Critics' Choice Super Awards on The CW -- a new awards show presented by the Critics Choice Association highlighting genre fiction in film and television -- The Old Guard took home the honor of Best Superhero Movie of 2020.

The Old Guard was one of five films nominated for Best Superhero Movie at the inaugural Critics' Choice Super Awards, the other four being Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)Secret Society of Second-Born Royals, Sonic the Hedgehog and Superman: Man of Tomorrow.

Based on the comic book of the same name by Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez, The Old Guard is written by Rucka and directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood. Released on Netflix in the United States on July 10, 2020, the film follows Andy (Charlize Theron), Booker (Matthias Schoenaerts), Joe (Marwan Kenzari) and Nicky (Luca Marinelli) -- a group of centuries-old warriors with regenerative healing powers who work as mercenaries in modern times. The Netflix film was met with critical acclaim, currently holding an 80% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Directed by Gina Pryce-Bythewood and written by Greg Rucka, The Old Guard stars Charlize Theron, KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Harry Melling. It is currently streaming on Netflix.
