The Office is a massively popular mockumentary TV sitcom taking place in the Scranton, PA branch of Dunder Mifflin, and every day in that office is an adventure. There are certainly some perks to working at this office, but then again, new employees have to deal with all kinds of pranks and other juvenile behavior from 9 to 5.

The Office is at its best and most intense when the characters are acting immaturely, such as Dwight's habit of bringing weapons to the office or Michael Scott's countless bad jokes and other antics. Then again, this show features some remarkably mature characters who tend to act their age, and they aren't liable to get into a petty argument or pull a prank.

10 Pam Beesley Tries To Keep Her Cool

Pam Beasley on The Office

Pamela Beesly is the receptionist at the office, and she takes her job seriously. Pam clearly believes in hospitality, and she is a kind and compassionate person to her co-workers, even if they tease her or behave poorly. She does her best to keep her cool and restrain her sharp tongue, but once in a while, she lets loose.

Pam has pranked other people before, such as defacing a troublesome dock worker's pickup truck, but that was an exception to the rule. Otherwise, Pam keeps her wits about her unless things get intensely personal, such as when Michael started dating her mother.

9 Toby Flenderson Sometimes Clashes With Michael Scott

Toby Flenderson from The Office

Toby Flenderson works in the Scranton branch's human resources department, and for the most part, he is a soft-spoken and agreeable fellow who does his best to not rock the boat or upset others. He is known for his patience and easygoing personality, but even he has his limits.

Toby is Michael's sworn enemy, and once in a while, Toby might actually get fed up with Michael's nonsense and show his dark side, though that's actually not saying much. He also took a keen interest in the Scranton Strangler case, actually met that serial killer in prison, and nearly got strangled himself.

8 David Wallace Had To Put Up With A Lot

Close up of David Wallace looking concerned and confused in The Office

David Wallace is the CFO, or chief financial officer, of the entire Dunder Mifflin company, and his office was located not in Scranton, but in the Big Apple, in New York City. That means he only appeared in person once in a while, but he was often on the phone with Michael Scott.

David was a mature and hardworking fellow for the most part, and he did his best to keep the peace in his company and restrain Michael and Dwight. He might lose his temper sometimes, though, and when he lost his job, he got a little unhinged at home, which didn't exactly please his wife.

7 Stanley Hudson Doesn't Like Games Or Adventures

Stanley Hudson in The Office, doing a crossword

Stanley Hudson is one of the grouchiest and most standoffish employees at Dunder Mifflin, but in his defense, he has to put up with a lot, from the steep tuition of his daughter's private Catholic school to having his secret affair blown wide open. He tries to keep his cool, but he might lose his temper now and then.

Stanley is quite mature on the outside, being a calm and collected professional who doesn't like to get sidetracked or distracted. That's commendable, but he can be scary when he loses his temper, and he terrifies Ryan with his angry lectures.

6 Robert California Was Smart But Odd

Robert California on The Office

Robert California was a peculiar addition to The Office, and notably, he was not based on a character from the original UK version of the show. For a time, he was Scranton's regional manager, and he also had the position of CEO for a time before stepping down.

Robert rubs some people the wrong way with his bizarre stories and eccentric ways, but he was ultimately harmless, and he took his job and his employees seriously in his own creative way. During a Halloween party, Robert helped his employees face their many fears, and it worked.

5 Phyllis Vance Has A Sharp Tongue

Phyllis Vance in The Office

Phyllis Vance is proudly married to Bob Vance of Vance Refrigeration, and she is also a fine, if unremarkable, sales rep at Dunder Mifflin. She is generally polite and respectful in the office, and she isn't prone to pulling Jim-style pranks or antagonizing others for no good reason.

Then again, Phyllis is quick to retaliate if anyone gives her grief, with Angela Martin being one of her worst enemies. In fact, Phyllis once manipulated Angela with unofficial blackmail, but in Phyllis' mind, this was justified. Angela was definitely out of line at the time.

4 Jo Bennett Ran A Tight Ship

Jo Bennett sat smiling at the camera with her dog from The Office

Jo Bennett is the CEO of Sabre, and she helped Dunder Mifflin when it faced serious financial woes later in the show. She is a tough, smart, and kind older woman who is like everyone's favorite grandmother — while she dotes on everyone around her, she is quick to punish troublemakers and put them in their place.

Jo Bennett is a mature, sophisticated, and fairly witty person, and she had no trouble keeping a tight rein on Dwight when he acted up. Any company would be fortunate to have a boss like her in charge.

3 Oscar Martinez Doesn't Like Making A Scene

Oscar Martinez smiling on his desk in The Office

Oscar Martinez is one of the accountants working at Dunder Mifflin, and like Phyllis, he doesn't like to cause trouble but will stand up for himself if anyone crosses him, which is fair enough. Oscar secretly finds Michael Scott aggravating and obnoxious, but he does his best to hide these feelings at the office. Instead, he rants to himself during the drive home.

Oscar is quiet, serious, and disciplined at the office, and he has little time for anything that's not work-related. He did enjoy roasting Michael Scott during the roast session down in the dock, and he got involved with Angela's husband. Other than that, he's on his best behavior, and he sincerely regretted upsetting Angela.

2 Hank Doyle Puts Duty First

Hank thinking in The Office US

Hank Doyle is the security officer not for Dunder Mifflin, but the building itself, meaning Michael can't fire him, and this came as a surprise early on in the show. However, it hardly matters because Hank is a consummate professional. He may be a tad grouchy, but he is otherwise a mature and respectable fellow.

Hank only appears now and then, but he always takes his job seriously, and he isn't prone to making jokes or goofing off at work. He has also had his kinder moments, which helps make him more likable.

1 Karen Filippelli Once Dated Jim Before Moving On

the office karen

Karen Filippelli, played by actress Rashida Jones of Parks and Recreation fame, is no "Karen." She is a kind and mature office worker who took her job seriously, and even when she goofed off, it was all in good fun, and no one got hurt. She has a balanced personality that anyone would like.

The only messy part of her life concerns Jim Halpert, whom she dated for a time before Jim went back to Pam. Karen wasn't too happy at the time, but she was doing much better later on. She climbed the corporate ladder, got married, had a child, and really got her life put together.
