In many ways, The Office and Avatar: The Last Airbender have very little in common. First of all, their audiences are very different, and they are even in completely different genres. However, just like how fans enjoy sorting characters from other stories into Hogwarts Houses, it can be a fun thought exercise to treat bending elements in a similar way.

So, we’ve created a list of the main characters from The Office and match them with what element they would bend based on their personality and temperament.

10 Darryl Philbin: Fire

The element of fire in Airbender is one that is often really misunderstood as always being an aggressive or scary thing. However, this isn’t the case at all. Just like in astrology, fire benders can have all kinds of personality traits, but they are characterized by an overall passion and drive for life.

This is why Darryl matches best with fire because he is one of the most ambitious and driven characters on the show.

9 Holly Flax: Water

Holly Flax isn’t always a main character in the show, but she is a very influential one. She matches best with the element of water because while she has a rather lighthearted side like an air bender and a practical side like an earth bender, she is overall fairly emotionally based and goes with the flow.

This doesn’t mean she is weak at all, and she’s in fact rather in touch with her emotions in a healthy way.

8 Ryan Howard: Air

In Airbender, air bending is often associated with some of the best and most morally upstanding characters, but the element of air isn’t always used by people with calm personalities.

Air is an element often associated with intellect, but it can also be associated with the inability to decide and flightiness. This is why Ryan is an air bender as he’s one of the most fickle characters from the series.

7 Karen Filippelli: Earth

Karen Filippelli has many great traits that earth benders and earth zodiac signs have. For one thing, she is overall very stable and practical, but this doesn’t make her boring.

She can be rather stubborn and stands up for herself which are two admirable traits that earth benders are known for. She also is much more grounded and reasonable than many of the other characters on the show.

6 Jan Levinson: Fire

Jan looking angry in The Office

While Darryl might be a great example of the positive aspects of a fire bender, Jan is an example of many of the worst. She is rather self-absorbed and erratic, and she leads with her emotions and anger in a way that is unhealthy.

She can also be extremely blunt to the point of being rude, and she doesn’t have a lot of self-control.

5 Angela Martin: Non-bender

Angela looking suspicious in The Office

Angela definitely wouldn’t be a bender at all because she’s someone who would hate to have anything abnormal or special about her. For example, if she was in the Harry Potter world, she’d definitely be a Muggle.

Angela is a very judgemental, uptight, and overall boring person, and she definitely wouldn’t want anything to do with a connection to nature or being able to do something unique.

4 Dwight Schrute: Fire

Dwight is another character who makes the most sense as a fire sign although it’s easy to imagine him watching Avatar: The Last Airbender and wanting to be the avatar. He combines many of the good traits of fire bending such as ambition and passion as well as some of the bad traits such as being quick to anger and too blunt at times.

He isn’t grounded enough or compassionate enough to be an earth or water bender, so fire makes the most sense.

3 Pam Beesly: Water

Pam Beasley on The Office

Pam Beesly is a perfect example of the lament of water because she’s compassionate, emotional, and overall calm.

However, just like with many water benders, despite being associated with a gentle, flowing element, she’s not weak. Water can be extremely powerful, and it’s often an element that is underestimated.

2 Jim Halpert: Earth

Jim Halpert would be a good fit with earth bending given his personality. While he has a fun, goofy side, he’s not particularly emotional or particularly passionate.

However, he is mostly practical and can really stick to things and work hard when he puts his mind to something. His steady nature and willingness to not give up make him best with the element of earth.

1 Michael Scott: Air

Micahel Scott can be difficult to connect with an element because he’s often out of touch with his own personality and self. While he does have some traits of a water bender, he makes the most sense with certain air traits.

He’s a bit capricious and unstable at times which are some of the negative traits associated with air, but he also is great at being upbeat in a way that matches best with air bending.
