The Nun has grossed an astounding $330 million at the worldwide box office so far. That puts it ahead of The Conjuring 2, which previously held topped the series at $320 million worldwide. All the more impressive? The film was produced for a mere $22 million, all but securing at least $100 million in profits when the film wraps its theatrical run.
While the film fell to fifth place in its fourth weekend, it still managed to earn an estimated $5.4 million, bringing its domestic haul to an impressive $109 million. Internationally, the film continues to thrive, taking in another $16.2 million for a foreign gross of $221 million. The Nun's overseas profits account for approximately 67% of its box office take to date.
Warner Bros. will continue to expand its Conjuring franchise with The Conjuring 3, which is expected to kick off production sometime in 2019. Producer Peter Safran previously revealed that David Lindsay Johnson is currently penning the script, and it's expected that the project will be "up and running next year." As it stands, no director has been announced for the film, and it remains to be seen if James Wan will return behind the camera for the third installment.
Directed by Corin Hardy, The Nun stars Demián Bichir, Taissa Farmiga and Jonas Bloquet.
