Inspired by Robert Eggers' The Northman, Vengeance: Inspired by The Northman is a new role-playing tie-in experience in Fortnite.

Veangeance is released with the intent to encourage engagement around the film's approaching premiere and that gamers can engross themselves in the grueling world of The Northman. The game's announcement was accompanied by an official trailer.

Vengeance was made accessible to the Fortnite players from April 15 onwards. The game includes more than 24 hours of content, which the players can access via entering the island code 6089-1011-3272. The top gamers on Twitch and YouTube will be live streaming on their channels to share their gaming experience.

Ashley Hsieh, the Vice President of Creative, Loaded, the gaming firm that partnered with Focus Features (distributor of The Northman), spoke on the tie-in. "We love how forward-thinking Focus has been as a partner," she said. "For a lot of brands, the future is scary enough that they continue to do what has worked in the past. When we get an opportunity to partner with a group who is willing to really think about things from a new perspective, it allows us to approach the market from a new direction. These are the types of engagements that change the paradigm, and we're so proud to have been able to design this experience on behalf of the great team over at Focus."

The Northman is Eggers' third directorial project. He gained popularity with his first two films, The Witch and The Lighthouse, both critically and commercially successful. The Northman, similarly, has earned generally positive reviews from critics, with many praising Eggers' direction, as well as the performances of the cast.

The Viking revenge saga follows the story of Prince Amleth and his return home decades after the killing of his father, Aurvandill. The story is heavily influenced by Shakespeare's Hamlet, and the trailers have promised a rare mix of mythology and Eggers' trademark supernatural horror. The upcoming Viking epic features a star-studded cast, including Alexander Skarsgard, Nicole Kidman, Ethan Hawke, and Anya Taylor-Joy and is a savage retelling of the Amleth legend-- a Scandinavian saga, which itself is believed to have been inspired by an ancient poem that has thus far not been found.

The Northman will release in theatres on April 22.
