A poster for the long-awaited film The New Mutants hints at the terrifying direction the film will take.

The New Mutants looks to be one of the most experimental X-Men films to have been released. One of the film's stars, Anya Taylor-Joy, called the tone of New Mutants unlike any she's ever seen in a film. Despite this unique tone, New Mutants is said to be set in the same universe as the rest of the X-Men movies. In fact, director Josh Boone revealed that he'd planned for the story to take place in the same timeline as 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse. There was even originally a plan for Professor X to make an appearance

Directed and co-written by Josh Boone, The New Mutants stars Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair/Wolfsbane, Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana Rasputin/Magik, Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie/Cannonball, Henry Zaga as Roberto da Costa/Sunspot, Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar/Mirage and Alice Braga as Dr. Cecilia Reyes. The film arrives in theaters April 3.
